Mouthwatering Food Photography!
Like kids in a sweet shop, we were so looking forward to shooting the new range of exquisite looking Grand Choux pastries by PAUL, as from previous experience we knew what delights awaited us!
For this shoot PAUL had supplied us with a strong brief. Prior to the shoot we had sourced the correct backgrounds and surfaces required for the shots. We know that preparation is crucial in creating the perfect image. The shoot was to be on black marble against a dark background with punchy lighting to really bring out the sculptural quality and ingredients of every choux pastry.
Attending the shoot with PAUL's Marketing Assistant, was PAUL's New Product Development Manager to create the choux pastries on site. Each one was hand made and a true work of
art worthy of a place in the Tate.
The idea of the shoot was to show the choux pastries standing proud as the hero with all the ingredients scattered around each one. A great idea showing the true quality of the product.
Food photography is an art and spending time to achieve a great shot for the client is something RGB Digital passionately believe in. With the client we spent several hours delicately placing and moving the choux pastry and ingredients around, employing a light touch and precise attention to detail until we had the perfect composition and shot. As with all things, preparation, dedication and patience is key, especially with food photography. The time spent achieving the initial shot was invaluable as it gave a direction and a format for the shots that followed. This allowed us the ability to ensure each shot was perfect and created a strong story across all the images.
On day two, we were shooting new coffee cups using a genuine jute coffee bean bag for the background. We believe, as do the people at PAUL, in doing things the right way which is why they employed the services of a barista to create perfect coffee for the shoot. Pleasant aromas filled the studio, with the barista kept busy on his toes making fresh coffee to ensure each shot captured the coffee at it's finest moment. Again, a great success making the client very happy.
At the end of the two day shoot, apart from being on a high from the amazing coffee, everyone was on a high because the shoot resulted in some fantastic shots of which everyone was very proud. The success of which is highlighted below:
"PAUL are premiering a new style of displaying it's new products following a recent trend in Western commercial food photography of presenting the food as simple, clean and naturally as possible with little props, using effects such as selective focus and extreme close-ups" says Iain Duncan, Brand Director, PAUL UK.
The images will be used in multi-media communication including social media, posters, strut cards, window decals and table talkers. The success of the Grand Choux photography has already been marked during its soft launch by a request for global rights by PAUL France to use the photography.
"Working with RGB was a really pleasant experience. The whole team are really nice and always happy to help including Susie the Marketing Manager and Stuart our Photographer. The result of this collaboration was a beautiful photo shoot!"
As for our favourite, it's the Banoffee every time! (and the Chocolate, Raspberry Violette and Strawberry!)
